WINNERS OF SPORT

 I am going to do this PPWG just a bit differently this week. I am going to begin with Best of Theme because it is the only undisputed photograph in this event. Normally our first place winner is honored by putting their photo on the event image. This week in an effort to not upset any of those tied for first we will put Best of Theme in that position. And the right to choose the event after BLACK AND WHITE is also suppose to go to the first place winner of SPORT but the admins for Picture Picks will pick it instead. The two photographers tied for first can message us their suggestion and we will choose.

There were only 20 photographs posted for this event and eight of those are here honored. My questions to the members of Picture Picks, photographers and voters alike, are: 1)Is this truly about becoming better photographers or just about winning and popularity? 2)And should we change the event rules so only those that post a photograph are eligible to vote.

A good week with a varied selection of abstracts some created from the photographers viewpoint and some incorporating photo manipulation techniques and all to good effect.
Our thirty two entries attracted a total of 134 votes. Three of the entries went well clear of the field and we finished with this result.

Not only is this simply a great shot (there were many great shots this week!), it incorporates numerous elements that, to me, make for an attention-grabbing abstract image, including great colors, interesting shapes, strong contrast, and unique subject matter. We only had 17 entries for this event. I guess we could say most photographers want to step away from the everyday trials and tribulations of the world. Still there were some interesting entries that 27 of our members cast 111 votes for.

Big Picture, Small title attracted 34 entries. Since I picked the topic, and am doing the post I was gratified with the enthusiasm. "This was difficult. Best of Theme pick this week was not just about a great photograph but also a great title; not just a title that stated the obvious, but one which completed the photo essay of the 1000 words the picture spoke. There were five I was choosing from but in the end Terry's photo of the US capital with flag and dark storm clouds won out. Her title on that picture spoke volumes."

WINNERS OF MY PASSION

We had some wonderful entries this week evidenced by the fact that this is the first week I can recall that all of the entries attracted votes.

 Forty four members attended and twenty one entered photographs.  Not surprisingly the natural world was involved in many of them.

We had 119 votes and the result was very close with only a few votes separating the top places.

“I choose Anthony Greco's photo as Best of theme this week, because I feel that the photo and description fit the true meaning.

Anthony stated-"Not too long ago I realized that there is nothing I enjoy more than exploring and 'capturing' nature. Pushing myself to be more specific, I feel fortunate to live near one of the most beautiful parts of much-maligned New Jersey--the cliffs of the Palisades. If anything, these beautiful formations are my passion."

This was a tough category to choose the photo that best fit the theme, along with a description that 100% showed the passion of the capture. I feel that Anthony succeeded at both. “
