WINNERS OF WORN

WORN was a challenging theme for both our photographers and those voting on the 40 pictures submitted for this event. We had one clear winner for first place, a tie for second and five honorable mentions. One of our second place winners was also chosen Best of Theme and her photo is displayed under that heading.

BEST OF THEME

Our winners except for Best of Theme are chosen by the votes of our photographers. The photographer that wins first place in an event gets to pick the theme for a future event. In this case it was Nancie M who picked the theme WORN. She has the honor of picking Best of theme.

Nancie says: 'When I look at this photo I immediately ask "I wonder how many miles this man walked to wear out these shoe?" and "What stories would these worn shoes tell if they could talk?"'

We broke records this week with 54 photographs submitted in this event. And voting was very close with only three votes separating five photographs for that reason this week we are awarding a Third Place and two Honorable Mentions.

BEST OF THEME

This award is chosen by the photographer who chose the theme. In this instance it was Catherine Sweetpotato and Jacqui Binford-Bell both of whom tied for first in the SUBTLE event. Their choice was Deborah Binford Baker. Per Catherine: This picture is a beautiful capture of "side by side" in nature. The crisp ,clean lines of this photo draw attention to the wonderful colors and movement of the subjects.

Nanci M who picked the theme Windows and Doors picked the best of theme photo: Encompassing a window within a door I felt that Terri's shot best represented the theme. I love the color and the fantastic light and shadows. I wanted to peek through the window, open the door, and walk inside. 

All other photos were picked by attendees to the event that voted for the photos they thought were best.

Picture Picks on Facebook now has 62 members. Each event seems to raise the level of our sophistication as photographers. SUBTLE was picked by David Hailey our winner of the WILD event and I encourage visitors to this page to see all the photos submitted.

David Hailey: My choice is "One Leaf," by Eagle Finegan. For me, this photo of a single leaf in a shallow pool simultaneously sp...oke of mortality and loneliness in the quietest of whispers.

We had another marvelous collection of entries on our theme of SPRING, and it has put us all in a Spring mood. The voting was extremely close this week, and we admins have decided, instead of a run-off, to allow a 3-way tie for first place to stand. Spring Snow, Ron Shook

Last week’s winner, Stephen Prendergast, chose Best of Theme:. He says:

My choice as Best of Theme is Spring Snow by Ron Shook. I especially like the simplicity of the picture - the single magnolia bud with a cap of snow. I think it is the simplicity that makes the statement about the arrival of Spring, in spite of any last hurrahs by Winter. I also like the way the fuzz of the blossom seems to almost merge into the snowflakes. Congratulations, Ron.

It was a wild week, indeed, with interpretations on our "Wild" theme ranging from the king of the jungle to a party animal, and everything in between.  We matched our previous best for number of entries this week, and we thank everyone for sharing their wild experiences. It was great fun.

Best of Theme

Intruding on Two Raccoons, Debra Webb

Our best of theme was selected by last week's winner, Val Juneman. Val says,

It was a tough choice, but after a long deliberation I've gone for Debra's black and white shot of 'intruding racoons'. Lots of photos of wildlife (and a few other 'wild' interpretations...), but I felt this photo helped capture the sense of 'being in the wild'.  The black and white tones and glimpse of faces through the vegetation, and the raccoon central frame looking straight at the camera enabling eye to eye contact. Felt like the picture was spying onto a moment of nature rather than focusing on the wonder of the animal itself.
