Clifford Forstadt selected Best of Theme for this event and offers the following about his photo choice:

"Quietly elegant, the perspective of this photograph beautifully captures the complimentary angles of the roof lines, the bottom-most sloping downwards, separated by space, then met by the ascending slope of the upper roof lines, all combining to soar upwards towards the amazing spiral spire, reaching towards the heavens, capturing an architectural expression of the sort of amazement aspired to within the walls of the church below."

Picture Picks is taking a Holiday Break while members vote on The Pick of 2010 and will open the new year with another winner chosen event. Remember - take those cameras everywhere.

WINNERS OF BLACK AND WHITE

This was a popular theme which leaves the actual subject open to the photographer resulting in a good variety of great entries.

Congratulations to all those who took part and special congratulations to Terry Atkin Rowe who achieved the top spot for the first time.

WINNERS OF SPORT

I am going to do this PPWG just a bit differently this week. I am going to begin with Best of Theme because it is the only undisputed photograph in this event. Best of Theme is picked by the winning photographer that picked the theme: Pascale Fernandez - "The full team is there to play!!!! "0-20" by Brian Crossland.

20-0 by Brian Crossland

Normally our first place winner is honored by putting their photo on the event image. This week in an effort to not upset any of those tied for first we will put Best of Theme in that position. And the right to choose the event after BLACK AND WHITE is also suppose to go to the first place winner of SPORT but the admins for Picture Picks will pick it instead. The two photographers tied for first can message us their suggestion and we will choose.

Tied for First Place with 12 votes each :

Play Ball! By Clifford Forstadt

Rowing Away by Pascale Fernandez

Low Tide at Sunrise and Canoeing by Eagle Finegan had tied for first in the votes but it also was a previous 1st place winner of  The Things I love and cannot win again. It is a great photograph, Eagle.

Tied for Second Place with 8 votes each :

Weiner Dog Basketball by Catherine SweetPotato

Mens College Lacrosse Tournament by Suzanne McLaughlin

Tied for Third Place with 7 votes each :

Watersports by Scott Michael Anna

Murderball by Ruthie Benjamin

St Anthony’s Triathlon by Jennifer Chappell
There were only 20 photographs posted for this event and eight of those are here honored. My questions to the members of Picture Picks, photographers and voters alike, are: 1)Is this truly about becoming better photographers or just about winning and popularity? 2)And should we change the event rules so only those that post a photograph are eligible to vote.

WINNERS OF ABSTRACT

A good week with a varied selection of abstracts some created from the photographers viewpoint and some incorporating photo manipulation techniques and all to good effect.

"I vote for Patti Wheeler's ZZZZZZOOOOOOM! Not only is this simply a great shot (there were many great shots this week!), it incorporates numerous elements that, to me, make for an attention-grabbing abstract image, including great colors, interesting shapes, strong contrast, and unique subject matter. Well done! "

Congratulations to all who took part and made it such an interesting competition.

WINNERS OF ANOTHER DAY/ANOTHER DOLLAR

We only had 17 entries for this event. I guess we could say most photographers want to step away from the everyday trials and tribulations of the world. Still there were some interesting entries that 27 of our members cast 111 votes for.

WINNERS OF BIG PICTURE, SMALL TITLE

Big Picture, Small title attracted 34 entries. Since I picked the topic, and am doing the post I was gratified with the enthusiasm. AND the lot smaller titles to have to type in while drinking my first cup of coffee. Congratulations to all winners of this event. And a special thank you to all who participated.

FIRST PLACE
Freedom by Anthony Greco

SECOND PLACE
Paris by Pascale Fernandez
THIRD PLACE
Sands by Eagle Finegan

HONORABLE MENTION
Prairie by Donna Palmlund
BEST OF THEME

And for best of theme for this week's Big Picture, Small Title Jacqui Binford-Bell, winner of Wood, picked Terry Atkin Rowe's Freedom.

"This was difficult. Best of Theme pick this week was not just about a great photograph but also a great title; not just a title that stated the obvious, but one which completed the photo essay of the 1000 words the picture spoke. There were five I was choosing from but in the end Terry's photo of the US capital with flag and dark storm clouds won out. Her title on that picture spoke volumes."

WINNERS OF MY PASSION

We had some wonderful entries this week evidenced by the fact that this is the first week I can recall that all of the entries attracted votes.
Forty four members attended and twenty one entered photographs.  Not surprisingly the natural world was involved in many of them.
We had 119 votes and the result was very close with only a few votes separating the top places.

FIRST PLACE

Walking by the river Dee by Maureen Campbell

 SECOND PLACE TIE

Autumn in New York by Terri Tighe

Flowers and Photography by Ruthie Benjamin

The American Black Bear by Scott Michael Anna

THIRD PLACE

Gone Hiking by Anthony Greco

HONORABLE MENTION

Refections in the Sky by John Pupparo

BEST OF THEME

As always this was chosen by the person setting the theme.

Gone Hiking by Anthony Greco

Scott Michael Anna had this to say about his choice :

“I choose Anthony Greco's photo as Best of theme this week, because I feel that the photo and description fit the true meaning.
Anthony stated-"Not too long ago I realized that there is nothing I enjoy more than exploring and 'capturing' nature. Pushing myself to be more specific, I feel fortunate to live near one of the most beautiful parts of much-maligned New Jersey--the cliffs of the Palisades. If anything, these beautiful formations are my passion."
This was a tough category to choose the photo that best fit the theme, along with a description that 100% showed the passion of the capture. I feel that Anthony succeeded at both. “
